The end of pet retail and consumer choice took effect on December 15Th 2024. Even though we were sourcing from USDA regulated breeders without violations as the state and counties mandated, puppy stores were competition for the retail rescues and animal agencies. NY State Consumers will now be purchasing online from the Worst breeders in the United States. These sub standard breeders have websites all over google and consumers really believe they are buying from caring people. Many of the retail rescues are now allegedly just buying their puppies from breeders. You don’t really believe that that breeders needed to give Maltipoos and Yorkies and bulldogs and 100s of other breeds to rescues for free do you? The demand is high and they can always find consumers and retailers to take them and pay for the puppies. A real rescue is taking a 6 year old Pitbull out of a kill shelter or maybe an elderly dog from a shelter, which is amazing to do. Going after the bad breeders is what should have been the process along with stricter NY State laws, not ending retail and destroying the lives of thousands of families in NY. I’m sorry we won”t be there to help you with your puppy purchases anymore.You no longer have the choice on how to acquire a puppy, kitten or rabbit. Sometimes unreasonable regulation is simply not a good choice and will cause more harm than clean up the problem it was intended to fix.Unfortunately New York state will turn into an underground non transparent market for puppy sales just as horrible as it is in the state of California (please google articles online).The severe consequences of this misguided blanket ban will start to take effect in the next few weeks. Pet stores stood behind the puppies that were being sold, closely following the NY State guidelines that protected the consumers as well as the puppy. When all the internet purchases are made and the sickness begins there will be thousands of dollars in veterinarian bills that consumers will simply not be able to afford.The number of abandoned pets will rise dramatically. Pet stores covered the bills on any puppy illnesses that arouse after the sale.This law just made the bad players stronger and richer than they could ever imagine.
